The southern Nevada desert showed up for business but was no match for the Dean Schlingmann Motorsports team this past weekend during the SNORE Battle at Primm 2008 on the California/Nevada state line. After many months spent bringing the DSM Ford F150 named ‘Layla’ back to life from a devastating 2007 rollover, the crew never skipped a beat as they crossed the finish line in both Saturday and Sunday Class 8 races with a 3rd place finish.

Some of the roughest terrain (man made and natural) available presented itself in front of the BFGoodrich wrapped American Racing Wheels without giving the DSM team a single flat. Additionally, the Sway-A-Way Shocks did a fantastic job of soaking up the 3 ft deep whoop sections and challenging jumps set up in the Buffalo Bill’s infield section. Navigators Joe Reinbold and Adam Gunn held right seat duties calling out turns, obstacles and oncoming traffic.

This finish is a testament to the DSM team as just one week prior to this race, ‘Layla’ came up lame when the torque converter threw a bolt through the transmission bell-housing leaving a large hole and cracked mounting flange surface. The transmission was quickly pulled and the guys at Harrell’s Transmissions in Covina, CA went to work changing over internal components into a new housing. Just 24 hours later, the DSM team was reinstalling the transmission and Layla was ready to race, with days to spare!

“This is a great start to the ’08 season. These guys worked very hard to get us back out here and I think we’re setting ourselves up for a promising year. I see great things ahead” comments Schlingmann.

Big thanks go out to the many team members and sponsor companies which helped DSM make this race possible. Sponsors such as S&B Filters, Beard Seats, BFGoodrich tires, Giant Motorsports, Ed’s Auto Parts of Covina, Harrell’s Transmissions of Covina, Accurate Steel Treating, Speedway Engineering, Sierra’s Truck and Auto, Sway-A-Way Shocks, Desert Specialties, AB Transfer, Torino Motor Racing, Performance Differential, Temper-Mental Racing, So Cal Bolt, B&M Shifters, Boshart Engineering, Kartek, General Driveshaft of Monrovia, In & Out Paint of Placentia, and Dusty Times.
